Lithium fluoride (LiF) crystals have the lowest refractive index among commonly used infrared optical materials. Their transmission spectrum ranges from 120nm to 7000nm and are commonly used in lenses, prisms, and windows for thermal imaging systems, aerospace optical systems, and excimer laser optical systems. This material has a high water solubility and a relatively low thermal expansion coefficient. When used in atmospheric environments, special measures must be taken to prevent deliquescence and deformation.
